At least five people drowned in south-eastern Turkey when dam sluice gates were opened, flooding the dried-out reservoir where they were picnicking, Turkish media reported Monday.
The company operating the dam on the Botan River in Siirt province said sirens had been sounded as a warning before the reservoir was filled Sunday night.
Emergency workers recovered five bodies. One person was reported missing, and four were rescued, reports said.
