Our Determination Paid Off Against Egypt ? Waris

By Akyereko Frimpong Manson

Ghana boy Abdul Majeed Waris believes the Black Stars? determination to apply the brakes on bogey men Egypt paid off with the emphatic triumph.

The 21-year-old Spartak Moscow hot-shot set up a goal for Asamoah Gyan in the 3rd minute before claiming his third international goal in nine games for the Black Stars.

Waris? incredible gift then allowed him to outsmart his marker with an elusive pace before getting past the Egyptian keeper and the latter?s attempt to stop him won Ghana a penalty and a booking for the keeper.

AC Milan?s Sulley Muntari calmly finished off the fifth goal before Christian Atsu came off the bench to ice the cake with a trademark finish, thriving on the wings and shooting accurately to the far-post.

Asamoah Gyan had earlier registered a brace.

And with Ghana considered as already in Brazil, Waris feels the credit is due team unity and determination.

?We?re happy for the win and everybody is happy for the victory. But I must say that we won the game basically because of the team unity and determination to stop the Egyptians. Though the margin was big and almost unexpected, I think we deserve what we worked for,? he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

Waris has scored in his past three games for Ghana at the Baba Yara Stadium and has formed a solid partnership with lead-man Asamoah Gyan.
