A.B. A Fuseini Urges Calmness In Sagnarigu

Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, Member of Parliament (MP) for Sagnarigu Constituency in the Northern Region, has expressed concerns over the recent conflict between some factions of Yilonaayili and Kulmanga in the Sagnarigu District in the Northern Region which claimed one life and left several others injured.

He said the situation in the area was of great regret and concern to the overwhelming majority of peace loving people of the area and called on the people in the area to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from any action that had the potential to breach the peace in the area.

Delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament on Friday, Alhaji Fuseini said efforts were underway to find an amicable solution to the problem and urged the two factions to remain calm while the authorities resolve problem.

On Tuesday March 12, a long standing dispute over land between the fraternal people of Yilonaayili and Kulmanga degenerated into a full blow conflict.

In the ensuring conflict, one person lost his life while several others got injured.

While commending the security for the timely intervention to separate the warring factions and to restore peace and order in the area, Alhaji Fuseini urged them to continue to work with members of the community and other stakeholders to protect lives and properties in the area.

He also commended the chiefs, opinion, religious and social leaders in the area for their intervention to calm down nerves and restore peace in the area.

?I like to remind my brothers and sisters in the area to remember the Dagomba saying that when brothers and sisters fight over land and crops, it is a stranger who takes over their land and reap the harvest,? he said and urged the people to come together to confront the poverty and underdevelopment that had become a common problem for the people.

Contributing to the debate, The Majority Leader, Benjamin Kunbuor, said conflicts existed in every community but becomes more problematic when such conflicts become violent.

He commended the security services for their early intervention and added that the temporal stop guard measure should be followed with measures to try to find solutions to the causes of the conflict to ensure that it did not reoccur again.

The Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, also contributing, called on the people in the area to exercise restrain while the security agencies and authorities in the area resolve the problem.

He urged the security agencies to be more proactive next time to ensure that such situations do not occur in future.

The Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho, ordered that the statement should be forwarded to the Ministry of Interior to ensure that the situation is resolved amicably.
