Zambia’s first President Kenneth Kaunda has been discharged from a hospital where he was admitted for medical checkups, his office said on Monday.
hospital equipmentCheswa Silwizya, the former president’s senior executive officer in charge of protocol said Kaunda was discharged from Lusaka Trust Hospital in the Zambian capital on Saturday afternoon after undergoing routine checkups.
The official, who is also the former Zambian leader’s daughter, said in a statement that he was discharged after doctors were satisfied with results from tests conducted on him.
She said Kaunda has expressed gratitude over the outpouring of love shown from a cross section of Zambians following his hospitalization.
Kaunda, who celebrates his 91st birthday on April 28, was admitted last Monday after his doctors looking after him recommended that he undergoes checkup following a busy local and international schedule during the last three months.
Kaunda, who is fondly called KK, ruled Zambia from 1964 to 1991, and is renowned for the fight against colonialism on the African continent. He is among the few remaining independence freedom fighters on the continent. Enditem
