Zambian President Edgar Lungu has expressed concern over the reckless expenditure at the country’s embassies across the world, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.
The Zambian leader, in remarks delivered when he swore-in two more ambassadors at State House has since called for an end to misuse of funds at the country’s embassies and ensure that reckless expenditure comes to an end.
The Zambian leader said he has been studying a report from the Auditor-General’s which has revealed gross mismanagement of resources at the embassies.
“I have been studying the Auditor-General’s report on foreign missions and the issues tackled show that there is a lot of reckless spending which I think you should bring to an end by guiding the mission staff accordingly,” he was quoted as saying by the paper when he swore-in Zambia’s high commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba and the country’s ambassador to France Humphrey Chibanda.
The latest Auditor-General’s report for the financial year ending December 31, 2013 cited several financial irregularities in Zambia’s 11 embassies.
The Zambian leader further called for the country’s representatives in embassies to show exemplary behavior as any kind of bad behavior could dent the country’s image. Enditem
