Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano has warned of possible terrorist attacks on nuclear facilities in countries that have weak security.

?This is a very serious issue for the international community now,? the head of the UN?s atomic watchdog said in a speech in Singapore on Monday.

Amano highlighted the importance of international cooperation in this field as he noted that ?terrorists always target the weak link.?

Those countries that fail to recognize the threats of ?terrorist sabotage or attacks on nuclear power plants or facilities? are the most vulnerable countries, he added, without referring to any specific threats or states.

Iraq?s Ambassador to the UN Mohamed Ali Alhakim said in a July 2014 letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that terrorist groups had seized some 40 kilograms of uranium compounds from Mosul University in northern Iraq.

Takfiri ISIL terrorists also took control of a huge former chemical weapons facility northwest of the capital, Baghdad, last June.

The ISIL terrorists currently control swaths of territory across Iraq and neighboring Syria, where they have been committing heinous crimes.
