He said the initiative, which was targeted at young people between the ages of 14 and 24, was aimed at providing a platform that could effectively connect and empower Ghanaian youth to what mattered to them most.

Mr Broumidis, who announced this at a round table discussion with the media practitioners in Accra, said the ?Vodafone X? initiative was created by Redlab, a group of young people from different universities and polytechnics in Ghana. .

He explained that, the initiative would be driven by exciting and engaging activities such as music and fashion, social media engagements, competitions, mentorship, and workshops.

?The youth represent the new frontier of growth and opportunity and are a very valuable segment to numerous markets and industries from telecommunications, fashion, fast moving consumer goods, hospitality, to entertainment,?? he said.

He said a survey conducted revealed that about 60 per cent of the country?s population was under 24 years and more than 18 per cent were between 15 and 24 years, and this provided the company an opportunity to introduce products to meet their needs.

?Over the past four years, we have played a key role in empowering the youth of Ghana through innovative programmes,? he said. ?Our slogan: ?Power to You? is more than an advertising slogan, it?s about empowerment, new approach of doing things and addressing social need through technology,? he explained.

He said youth investment was a key component of Vodafone Ghana?s commitment, because it believed in assisting the youth to improve their lives through innovative products and social impactful programmes.

Mr Broumidis gave the assurance that youth investment would continue to be a key component of Vodafone?s commitment in Ghana, and the company would continue to lead innovation in telecommunication by providing world-class products and services and empower lives in communities across Ghana.
