Hon. Joseph Yammin with the Junior National Athletic Team and their coaches

DEPUTY MINISTER for Youth and Sports, Joseph Yammin, has tasked athletes who are camping in Kumasi for the Africa Junior Athletics Championship in Botswana to work hard.

He told the Junior National Athletic team that if they worked hard, remained serious, disciplined, and obedient to their trainers, they would certainly become global stars very soon.

Hon. Yammin was addressing the young athletes when he made an unannounced visit to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi where the athletes were training, to monitor their progress so far.

?I decided to make this surprise visit to see how you are training ahead of the Africa Junior Athletics Champions in Botswana which is some few weeks away,? the Deputy Minister averred.

Hon. Yammin stated that he was at the training grounds to motivate the young athletes to sustain their hard work, charging the young athletes to win medals to lift Ghana?s name high during the championship.

He said it was the desire of the NDC government, led by President Mahama and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to pay maximum attention to all sporting disciplines including athletics and other events, perceived as lesser known sports.

The Deputy Youth and Sports Minister assured the young athletes that the entire Ghana population was firmly behind them, so they should make the country proud by winning medals during the upcoming championship.

Anselm Nyavedie, coach of the Junior National Athletics team, said the young athletes and the coaching staff were surprised about the visit of the minister, noting that it would spur the team on to shine in Botswana.
