What Work Are You Doing?

wpid-wpid-DrNkrabeahDartey.jpgDateline- Tuesday, 2nd September 2014. I was in my law offices at asylum down, Accra, doing a little kind of ?newspaper review? with my colleague lawyers in the office.

As it normally happens, our discourse strayed onto several issues, relations of anecdotes and then one of us related an unforgettable significant quibble.

A certain contractor was given a contract to renovate the cathedral in London, UK, and one morning while all the workers were at post, the contractor decided to inspect the level of the workers morale.

He asked the first worker: ?what work are you doing?? in answer, he said blankly, ?I am cutting blocks?.

There are a lot of people walking this earth who have a very simplistic extremely narrow approach to the work they are doing ?I? am just cutting block?: ?I am just teaching.? ?I am just arguing in court???

I dare say in all frankness that people like that hardly ever make a newspaper headline; they do not leave footprints in the sands of time, and when they die, they are forgotten completely, like animals who have no name.

The story continues that the contractor asked another worker and his responds was ?oh. I am just trying to make some bucks to feed my wife and children?.

These are the mercenaries of life- twenty four hours their lodestone is making money, never ever satisfied, ready to undercut each other, even kill, just ?to make some bucks?.

It is interesting but characters like that terrible crooks. They have no integrity. They are remorseless and pitiless. Their bank accounts are something in eight figures, but the tragedy of it is that they die and leave all for girlfriends and quarrelling relations to loot.

And they are never happy ? always afraid of their own shadows, thinking that the subterfuge and chicanery they employ daily may be used by others against them.

The contractor finished his inspection by asking a third worker: ?what work are you doing??

His answer was golden: ?oh, I am just trying my little quota to help renovate the cathedral to glorify the name of almighty god!!!?

Reader, have you ever said something like that??oh, I am a policeman, just helping to maintain law and order so that there will be peace in the country. ?Oh, I am a taxi driver trying to help solve the transportation problems of the people.? ?Oh,I? am a medical doctor trying to save lives to glorify the name of the lord.?

Reader, have you ever seen yourself as an instrument in the hands of the living god to actualize his will on earth?

And you know the mystery? All those who are in the third category: the noble vessels of god, those who see their vocation as a means for God to glorify himself ? reader, they hardly have bank accounts that will satisfy any embassy is a officials, but they always have money to do what has to be done. It is incomprehensible.

Those in the third category are never worried about tomorrow, because they know almighty God will take care of them; he will provide, and that he is their portion.

In which category are you?
