The Africa Center for Energy Policy has backed government?s decision to sack the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana Rev. William Hutton-Mensah.

The decision to sack Rev. Hutton-Mensah comes in a wake of an intense load shedding exercise across the country which has left households, companies go off several days without electricity.

Some angry residents in Accra and Kumasi have only recently?vented their anger at the?ECG. They?blocked roads and threatened to beat up ECG officials.

It is not clear whether or not the President?s?appointment is in reaction to the persistent power cuts.

A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani last week said?Robert Dwamena ?will be acting in that capacity.

Unionized workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana have embarked on a national protest to get their sacked boss reinstated, asking government to explain why CEOs of VRA and GRIDCO are still at post.

But speaking with JOY NEWS, Executive Director of ACEP Mohammed Amin Adam said ECG has breached the social contract it signed with its customers.
