South African side Maritzburg United say the quality of Ghanaian players is the reason why they are focusing on the West African country and other African countries for talent.

Maritzburg have enjoyed a reasonable amount of success in finding strikers from Africa, who can score goals and do a good job in the PSL.

Last season Cuthbert Malajila was extremely prolific and his good form led to a move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The club have moved quickly to fill the void left by the Zimbabwean, by bringing in Yakubu Mohammed from Ashanti Gold.

The Ghanaian banged in the goals last season in the Ghana Premier League.

The club are also linked with another West African hit-man, in Dele Olurundare from Sunshine Stars.

The striker was due to arrive at the Team of Choice earlier this month, so that Ernst Middendorp and his technical team could run the rule over him.

However, a delay in getting his visa has meant that it?s unclear when the player will arrive for his assessment.

United?s Commercial Manager, Younus Kadodia, explained to the Siya crew why they feel that West African strikers are capable of doing the job in the PSL.

He said, ?We?ve been using Ghanaian and Nigerian strikers for a few reasons. Their ability to adjust quickly to the conditions here is usually much better than other foreigners.

?Physically they are usually very good. Yakubu Mohammed scored plenty of goals in the Ghana Premier League for Ashanti Gold. He?s got a proven track record and isn?t a player we found by chance. We?ve given him a four-year contract and we just need him to deliver on that.

?The other player we hope to look at is Dele Olurundare, he was part of the Nigeria squad which faced Ivory Coast recently.?
