Why Lionel Messi is NOT the greatest ever

0

After the Barcelona superstar’s recent one man demolition job against German team Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, some football journalists/ commentators here and in Europe are posing the question ?Is Messi the greatest ever?’

Well this article will put Lionel Messi under the microscope and explain why he is not the greatest ever, despite his brilliance for Barcelona.

When one does a critical analysis, Messi IS NOT the greatest especially when one compares him with Diego Maradona and for me the greatest ever, Pele.

There are some who would argue that Pele never played in Europe but the truth of the matter is that when Pele was at his very best the game in Europe had not developed to the extent it is now and back then the Brazillian league was the most competitive and technically proficient.

Messi is no where near Pele because using critical analysis Pele scored more than 1200 goals in his career starting as a mere 16 year old for Santos whereas Messi is yet to score 300 career goals.

Next Pele won three World Cups with Brazil (1958 as a mere 17 year old, 1962 and 1970) whereas Messi is still to win a World Cup with Argentina with time not on his side.

Again Pele was/is technically more gifted and the more the complete player than Messi.

Pele could play with both feet, whereas Messi is predominantly left footed. Pele’s technical ability with regard to dribbling, passing , shooting from long range coupled with his pace and raw power means that he is more the complete player than Messi who has flaws in some of the above.

There is no doubt that Pele is the greatest footballer ever to have played the game and no one has even matched him in terms of career goals or World Cups including greats like Maradona, Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini, Zinedine Zidane or Ronaldinho.

I would recommend that readers and football journalists/commentators alike watch the video of the entire 1970 World Cup to witness Pele at his peak demonstrating mesmerissing skills and sublime techniques.

If Messi is to be acclaimed the greatest ever, he needs to first over Pele’s goalscoring record and at least win 2 World Cups.
