Northern Ghana Aid (NOGAID Ghana), Tamale-based development organisation, has criticised government for its inability to provide resources for the re-opening of 82 senior high schools (SHSs) in Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.

NOGAID, which champions the development aspirations of the people of northern Ghana told newsmen, in Tamale, on Wednesday that educational pursuit in the three regions is very poor and government should not toil with the destiny of the students.

Mr Mustapha Sanah, Executive Chairman of NOGAID said: ?The fact that senior high schools could not be re-opened in northern Ghana is tragic because of the fact that the Ministry of Finance did not release feeding grants.?

This, he said, would worsen the developmental imbalance between northern and southern Ghana.

Mr Sanah said the phenomena had become a perennial affair over the years.

?Our chiefs and opinion leaders are mandated to question our parliamentarians and government officials why the continued delays in the release of feeding grant in our secondary schools,? he said.

Mr Sanah said it is unfortunate that only third-year SHSs students are in school while the rest are idling about at home.

This, he, said is undermining the importance of education in national development.

?What is preventing government from releasing GH?3 million to reopen schools especially in poor and disadvantaged areas like the north?? Mr Sanah asked.
