Want ?Think Like a Man? Franchise to be ?Buffoonery?

Self-appointed relationship guru Steve Harvey has hopes for the sequel to his smash hit movie ?Think Like a Man.?  Though people have pitched him scripts, he wants to make sure the movie lives up to fans expectations, reports Sister2Sister Magazine.

?They pitched a couple of storylines to me. I?m not sold on any one of them yet,? said Harvey. ?You can?t take my book and turn it into anything close to buffoonery. I?m not ever going to allow that. The book wasn?t about buffoonery. The first movie wasn?t?and it really struck a nerve with men and women?and so the second movie has to be in that same vein.?

Rumbles of boycotting ?TLAM? the first go ?round, were largely fueled by the condescending tone of Harvey?s ?advice? to Black women on how to get and keep a man. Then there was the ?little? issue of comedian and movie co-star Kevin Hart expressing his disdain for Black women with dark complexions:

Instead of apologizing for insulting the women he wanted to support the film, Hart told them they were being too ?sensitive.?

The film also drew backlash for alleged homophobic undertones, and it?s one-size-fits-all approach to relationships. From Gawker.com:

The book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man is repulsive for its assertion that all men are simple and resulting assumption that they?re all the same. (Literally the last chapter is a bunch of answers to questions Harvey made up about what men like. Just so you know: plastic surgery within reason is cool, so are thick women, smoking is a no-no and heels are essential.) There is no sense of human nuance, only the perpetuation that women and men are very, very different.

Even with all the backlash, ?Think Like a Man? drew large crowds, with 62% of excited movie-goers being Black women 30 and older who graded the film an ?A,? according to CinemaScore. As previously reported by NewsOne.com, no research has been done to see how it played in markets outside of the Black demographic, but it shattered predictions raking in an astonishing $33 million at the box office.

Rumor has it that Harvey is working on his second book and preparing to launch a day-time talk show.
