Wa youth living on the streets interact with parliamentary candidates

The youth of Wa Township who live on the streets have interacted with parliamentary candidates in Wa Central to present their concerns to them. The programme, which was organised by Youth Alive Ghana, a non-governmental organisation in partnership with STAR Ghana, a multi-donor pooled agency, was aimed at attracting all the candidates to outline initiatives that they would undertake to better the lives of the youth.

Mr Peter Bavriluguh Tanga, Programme Manager of Youth Alive Ghana said the youth who live on the streets cannot do so forever, hence the need for measures to reverse the situation.

Parliamentary candidates from National Democratic Congress (NDC), Convention People?s Party (CPP) and Progressive People?s Party (PPP) participated in the encounter.

Mr Issahaque Suleman, Parliamentary Candidate for CPP said he would work to better the lives of the youth on the streets if he is giving the nod as Member of Parliament (MP).

He said Dr Kwame Nkrumah, First President of the country and Leader of the CPP believed in the youth.

Mr Suleman said the party would work to enhance the development of the youth.

He pledged to work in partnership with organisations like Youth Alive Ghana to train the youth in special skills like welding, electronics, carpentry to enable them get jobs that would change their circumstances for the better.   

Alhaji Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, NDC MP for Wa Central, who is seeking re-election, pledged his readiness to listen to the concerns of the youth and offer them the needed support.

Mr James Sohimwinye, PPP Parliamentary Candidate noted that creating more jobs would prevent the youth from living on the streets.

He pledged to provide them with education and create opportunities for them to get jobs.
