Wa TI Ahmadiyya Emerges Winners Of Project Citizen Competition

TI Ahmadiyya Senior High School (SHS) won this year?s Project Citizen competition  which was organized for the five Senior High Schools in the Wa Municipality for  students to showcase their understanding of social problems and present plans for their resolution.
The Wa Senior High Technical High School came second while Wa Senior High School took the third position. The other schools which participated were the Wa Technical Institute and the Wa Islamic Senior High school.

The event, which marked the fourth annual Project Citizen competitions organized by the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), was held at the Wa Senior High Technical School.
Issues showcased were stigmatization of persons with disabilities in political appointment in the Upper West Region, the effect of communication on the health status of the deaf and dumb and high illiteracy rates among women in the region.

The rest include challenges of women in community development and stigmatization of people living with HIV in the Municipality.

TI Ahmadiyya Senior High School which treated the issue of stigmatization of people living with HIV in the Wa Municipality was adjudged the best by the panel of judges.

Ms Dora Hammond,  Deputy Director of Programmes of the NCCE and Director of Project Citizen, said the project was an innovative way of reaching out to the youth in promoting civic activities and motivating them to get in interested in the constitution and behave as good citizens.
She advised the students not to participate in Project Citizen for the sake of participation but to practice what they had learnt from the Project after leaving school.

Mr. Husein Sulemana Haruna, the Regional Director of NCCE, said partisan politics had polarized the country to the extent that political disputes were emerging in schools.

He advised the students to concentrate on discussing issues that can bring social harmony.
