Visit the Enthralling Meenmutty Falls at Wayanad

Meenmutty falls is in Wayanad district of Kerala, which is also called as green paradise. This district is located between the Western Ghats and the mountains.

Meenmutty falls is one of the famous places to visit in Kerala. The waterfall is about 300 meters high and is separated in 3 tiers. If you want to reach the top of the waterfalls then you need to take a hike of about two kilometers. This waterfall is twelve kilometer to the east of Meppadi & its depth is about 500 meters.

You can get all kinds of hiking and trekking equipment from the nearby tourism information center, which is available at the site. You can hire a bus from Meppadi and Sultan Bathery Bus stand to reach the fall.

Wayanad is exactly situated in Kerala’s north eastern part, which is also Deccan plateau’s southern tip.

From most of the well known tourist destinations like Kannur, Ooty, Mysore, Bangalore, and Coorg it is very close by. You can buy bus tickets from any of these places to reach Wayanad.

Wayanad is covering almost 2132 sq km area and there are 3 taluk’s namely Sulthan Bathery, Mananthavady and Vythiri. District headquarter is located at Kalpetta. The district of Wayanad was recently created on 1st of November 1980, as kerala’s twelfth district.  This district has been formed out of Kannur and Kozhikode cities.

The meaning of Wayanad is Paddy fields. There exists a rich history about Wayanad. Nestled among the hills of this place you can find the evidences of Stone Age period. 

If you visit Ampukuthimala caves you can find pictorial writings available on the wall, which is very good evidence about the civilization present in the past era.

During old times, Wayanad was ruled by a tribal king.

Later, the dynasty of Kottayam Royal took over the control of Wayanad. Hyder Ali, after he became the Mysore king took the control of this place after winning the battle. However, during the Tipu Sultan’s time it again went under the control of Kottyam Royal Dynasty.

After it came under the British rule there were many changes in Wayanad. Cashew and Tea crops were grown in its land and many roads were built.

A lot of special spices of Kerala are available here. You can buy these spices from various shopping areas available at many places. You can also shop for coffee and tea that is available in different flavors and taste.

You can also buy plenty of craft items from Wayanad, which are made out of wood, cane, ivory, coconut shells, metals and bamboo articles.

You can visit Wayanad by air, rail and road. The airport and railway station at Kozhikode is the nearest one. The distance is about 98 km and you can easily reach by taxi.

In case, you want to travel by Bus then you can easily buy bus tickets from Mysore, Ooty, Kannur or Kozhikode cities. There are regular Bus services available from other cities like Chennai, Bangalore or Trivandrum too.
