Poised to sustain the corresponding achievements made during his tenure as the Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, for the people of Imo North senatorial zone of the state, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu, has obtained the nomination and expression of interest forms to contest the forth-coming Okigwe zone?s senatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Obtaining the forms at the headquarters of the party in Owerri yesterday, amidst large turn out of supporters, Rt. Hon Uwajumogu, stated that the event of the day had signaled a new dawn for the good people of Okigwe zone.
He pointed out that he would channel all his energies and experiences garnered so far at the state legislature, to pursue vigorously the course of his people at the national Assembly.

While acknowledging the enormity and the onerous task inherent in attracting Federal presents, the Speaker explained that it would only take someone who is well armed with the requisite political dynamics of the legislature, as well as the political sagacity to surmount such challenge, adding that his over 3 years leadership of the State legislature had afforded him the ample opportunity to learn the ropes for the overall benefit of his people.

The Speaker however, disclosed that if elected Senator for Okigwe zone in the upcoming polls, attraction of Federal presents in various capacities to the zone would be his utmost priority, as according to him, Okigwe zone had remained the number one zone in the state where Federal presence is glaringly lacking since the inception of this democratic dispensation.

He further added that his stint at the National Assembly would open up a new vista of hope for the people, as women and Youths would be empowered into meaningful ventures, while scholarships would also be awarded to gifted children of the area at all levels to enable them realize their lofty dreams.

He maintained that agriculture, which is the major economic policy of the people will be given adequate attention, adding that irrigational farming would be introduced in the area through the facilitation of the dredging of the popular Imo river which cuts across the six council areas of the zone to boost agricultural production of the people.

The speaker also averred that his representation at the senate would accommodate all interest in the zone, irrespective of political party affiliation, as according to him, the beauty of democracy lies on its healthy competition and popular consent, while acknowledging that the development of Okigwe zone was a collective responsibility.
