The Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Angwutubuge Awuni, has cautioned commercial motorbike riders, popularly called ?Okada? riders and motor bike users to endeavor to wear protective helmets at all times.

He notes that ?riding without a protective helmet is an offence punishable by law.?

The MTTU Commander in an exclusive interview with this reporter disclosed that his outfit has incarcerated a lot of people who have fallen foul of this law.

He minced no words by stating that the Service would continue to arrest offenders till the right thing is done.

He therefore advised the general public especially Okada riders to continuously use protective helmets which he said, helps protect and preserve life.

Meanwhile, checks around some parts of the capital, namely Adabraka, Nima, Mamobi, Caprice and Abeka-Lapaz in Accra indicate that some of these motor riders are still flouting this law with impunity.

These motor bike riders who are mostly youth screech their motor bikes with careless abandon on the streets of the capital, posing a threat to both themselves and other motorists.
