Head of UNOCI’s civilian affairs section Peyogori Ouattara said the experts and local authorities from the northern region had initiated programs aimed at bringing the two communities together.
He cited the example of Bako region where the farming and livestock keeping communities had agreed to end their antagonism.
“A code of good conduct was signed by the two sides who agreed on creation of grazing parks to prevent animals from wandering all over,” Ouattara said.
The UNOCI official hailed efforts of various groups to restore lasting peace in the region.
The destruction of crops by cattle has always been the source of major conflicts between herders and farmers in the northern parts of the country.
Several members of government have visited the northern region to try and bring peace between the two groups.
The violent confrontations between the two sides in various localities of the north have already caused several deaths. Enditem
