Ulinzi declare ‘war’ on bankers

Former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Ulinzi Stars will send out one of the most lethal attacks at the league against KCB this afternoon at the Afraha Stadium.

Even the AFC Leopards duo of Allan Wanga and Victor Ochieng’ pale in comparison to the talent at coach Benjamin Nyangweso’s disposal, which includes the likes of golden boot winner Stephen Waruru, Wyclife Ochomo, new Harambee Stars call-up Kevin Amwayi, Vincent Onyango and Lawrence Owino.

Waruru was last season’s revelation, scoring 12 goals to become the league’s top scorer, better than player of the year Kevin Kimani and seasoned scorers John Baraza, Bob Mugalia and Mike Barasa. The soldiers coach Nyangweso has raved about Waruru being a ‘versatile born winner’ and has added Ochomo, who was a key figure in Gor Mahia’s strike force, to his squad during the January transfer window.

Kevin Amwayi scored crucial goals that helped Western Stima to the top eight competition final and 11th position in the league, while Lawrence Owino was the soldiers’ top scorer at the Cecafa Club championships in last year with four goals.

While Nyangweso ponders his attacking options ahead of their afternoon showdown at the Afraha Stadium, KCB coach James ‘Odijo’ Omondi needs to solve his defensive problems that saw them drop from second position in mid season to almost relegation.

“We are just focused on win the league and nothing else. Last season we just unlucky, we tumbled at the crucial moment and we don’t a repeat of that this time, we will treat every match very seriously,” said Nyangweso.

He added: “KCB has always been a hard nut to crack and we will treat them with a lot of seriousness, because we want maximum points from the match.”
