Ugwuanyi gets youth backing for Governorship

Those thinking of wrestling the governorship seat of Enugu state with popular a spirant Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi during the general election early next year will have the forces of over 5000 youth in the city of Enugu to contend with just as the youth at a rally in the coal city endorsed Ugwuanyi for Governor. They also endorsed Governor Sullivan Chime for Senate stating their preparedness to mobilize votes for the governor in Enugu West zone.

The famous Okpara square known for hosting government activities came live Tuesday as the youth comprising students from various higher institutions in the city and other pro PDP youth bodies stormed the arena in their numbers to declare their support for Ugwuanyi who is popularly known as gburugburu. The youth also used the opportunity to declare their support for reelection of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Our correspondent who was at Okpara square reports that the rally tagged ‘Support and Endorsement’ of gburugburu for governor, which was organized by Youth Initiative for Leadership in collaboration with Council of Student Union Presidents in Enugu State was well attended by the students, PDP chieftains as well as supporters of gburugburu with Minister of Power Professor Chinedu Nebo delivering the Key note address.

In his key note address Professor Nebo represented by a consultant to the Federal Ministry of Power on Light up Rural Nigeria mEngr.Damian Ifenayi Eze (Ezetch) urged the youth to prove their support with votes during the election advising them to shun any act of violence capable to pitch them against law enforcement agents before, during and after the elections.

Professor Nebo informed them that their decision to support the reelection of president Jonathan, election of Governor Chime for senate and gburugburu for governor was right and noble maintaining that they have to march the support with votes as according to him “your vote is your power to see the person you are supporting through and without it you can’t make any meaningful impact”

The Minister assured that the Federal Government is prepared to organize a free, fair and credible elections in 2015 and urged the youth and other section of the electorates to get ready to come out to vote because their votes are definitely going to account as the case of Ekiti and Osun governorship elections noting that days are gone when people will assume that their votes will not count and end up staying at home on election day.

He added, “president Jonathan will give us a free, fair and credible election, he did it 2011, in Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun states respectively and come February next year he is going to repeat it again, so get ready and don’t ever say that your votes won’t count. You can agree with me that the people’s votes counted in Ekiti and Osun states recently”.

The leaders of the students Iloefe Ugochukwu in his address informed that the students in particular who were drawn from all the higher Institutions in Enugu such as University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC) Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) and others have consulted widely and discovered that Hon Ugwuanyi is the right choice for the job.

Ugochukwu who said that the students declared operation show your voter card ahead of the rally informed that all the students in attendance have their voter card intact because the card is like a ticket that qualified people to attend the rally adding that anybody that doesn’t have voter
card cannot belong to the set up.

He said that they are prepared to go house to house to mobilize votes for Jonathan, Chime and Ugwuanyi and called on the good people of Enugu state to join hands with them to ensure that the trio are elected come February 2015.

In his remark Hon Ugwuanyi who was represented by Hon Ogboo Asogwa thanked the youth for the endorsement telling that their decision to actively participate in the forthcoming election is a huge boast to the cause of democracy and good governance in Enugu state in particular and Nigeria in general.
