Two wholly-owned Ghanaian companies have been listed in the 2012 Forbes’ top 20 start-ups in Africa.

The companies are Dropifi and SMSgh. This was published in the February 2012 edition of the Forbes Africa magazine.

Dropifi came third while SMSgh placed 17th on the 20-listed start-up companies.

Dropifi, which was started in 2011, assists businesses to better respond to incoming messages via their website, and also includes analytics for website owners.

SMSgh, founded in 2005, on the other hand offers bulk SMS solutions, SMS Gateway solutions and mobile web solutions.

A social networking website for building relationships or dating – Bandeka – co-founded by a Ghanaian and a Nigerian is number seven on the list.

MXit of South Africa topped the list. MXit is one of the first Mobile Instant messaging services in the world and in Africa, and has a user-base of about 45 million.

The start-up list was dominated by companies from South Africa and Kenya.
