Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts, on Monday inaugurated the Tuobodom JSS ?Thank You Small Library? in Tuobodom in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

libraryThe library, is the 35th ?Thank You Small Library? in Ghana funded by the UNWTO ST?-EP Foundation in Ghana, headquartered in Seoul, Republic of Korea and consists of establishing small libraries in poor communities as an essential means for development.

In a release issued to the Ghana News Agency on Monday in Accra, Mrs Ofosu Adjare said the project is based on the Korean model of eliminating poverty, especially in poor communities.

She said reading opens the doors for children’s early academic success, imparts a love for learning and leads to higher grades in every subject.

?When children learn to read at an early age, they get greater general knowledge, expand their vocabulary and become more logical in their thinking. Their attention span improves and concentrates better in the classroom. They also become capable researchers, who are able to study effectively and take out relevant and necessary information from books, she stated.

Mrs Ofosu Adjare said it is only by mastering effective reading that children get the necessary knowledge, which would enable them to excel now and also into the future.

She expressed appreciation to the District Chief Executive, the District Director of Education, the Ambassador Young Shim Dho, Chairperson of the UNWTO ST-EP Foundation and all stakeholders for the roles they played in establishing the library.
