Togolese incumbent president ahead in a second batch of partial results

A second batch of partial results of the 25 April ballot, disclosed early on Tuesday, gives the incumbent president Faure Gnassingbe a leading position with 195, 156 votes out of 252,322 valid votes cast in 991 polling stations of five electoral districts.

The batch of results was released, Tuesday at dawn, by Taffa Tabiou, chairman of the National independent electoral commission (CENI), election organization body.
These are the results of the electoral districts of Blitta, Oti, Tandjoare, Cinkasse and Kpendjal, five districts out of the remaining 36 after a first batch of results of six districts disclosed on Monday out of a total of 42.
They revealed 252,322 votes cast for 260,476 voters and 7979 invalid ballots.
The incumbent president Faure Gnassingbe, standing for a third term, obtained 195,156 votes, against 16,229 for his challenger Jean-Pierre Fabre, candidate of the coalition “Fight for political alternation in 2015 (CAP-2015)”.
The other three candidates Mouhamed Traore, Gerry Taama and Aime Gogue obtained respectively 1,823, 1,861 and 36,848 votes.
CENI disclosed on Monday the first results of 934 voting stations of six electoral districts (Ave, Anie, Assoli, Baguida, Bassar and Binah) out of 8,994 voting stations of 42 electoral districts that were operational during voting day. The incumbent president Faure Gnassingbe obtained 133 375 votes, against 68 957 for his challenger Jean-Pierre Fabre. Mouhamed Traore, Gerry Taama and Aime Gogue obtained respectively 1761, 1657 and 1569 votes.
Faure Gnassingbe, in competition with four candidates of the opposition, came to power in April 2005, following special election after the death on 5 February the same year of his father General Gnassingbe Eyad?ma who ran Togo from 1967 till his death.
