An ocean surge had yesterday resulted in one fatality and 15 missing people
Three more bodies have been recovered at the Kuramo Beach, Lagos, where an ocean surge swept away 16 residents.
This was confirmed by the general manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Femi Osanyintolu, on Sunday.
He said that divers and other rescuers were still searching for other bodies.
Osanyintola had on Saturday said that a body was recovered, while 15 others were missing. The recent recovery has brought the number of bodies to four, with 12 others still missing.
The disaster occurred at about 2.00 a.m. on Saturday, while residents of the beach resort were asleep.
Osanyintolu also said that most of the victims were those occupying illegal shanties at the waterfront.
Kuramo Beach and other waterfront resorts in the area had been cordoned off by security?officials and personnel of emergency agencies.
LASEMA has also advised residents of?waterfront settlements in Lagos to vacate such places immediately, for fear of a reoccurrence of the Kuramo Beach tragedy?.
