Also arrested was the driver of a DAF articulated truck with registration number GT 2787 D, Emmanuel Kwasi Ameyi. He was said to have inserted GH?5 into a booklet to induce the policeman after being arrested for driving without a license.

The bribe-givers were handed over to the Dawa police for further investigation and prosecution.

In all 25 drivers were arrested for various motor traffic offences such as driving without licenses, non-renewal of vehicle documents, drunk driving, shattered windscreens, driving with fake licenses, driving with slippers, talking on cell phones while driving, over-speeding, driving rickety vehicles and driving vehicles with worn-out tyres.

Some drivers were also arrested during the exercise for not having triangles, fire extinguishers, roadworthy certificates and spare tyres.

Superintendent Oduro Amening, Tema Regional Police Commander told journalists the drivers tried to bribe the police after they realized they were at fault.

He implored drivers to keep their vehicles in good condition and abide by the motor traffic laws to avoid creating accidents adding that the exercise will continue to ensure that drivers complied with traffic regulations as the offenders would be arraigned before court.

He said drivers who claimed to have left their licenses at home would be given a time period to produce them but those without licenses would be prosecuted.
