Oba Samuel Adegoke Adegboye, the late Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, was a
father, not only to his children and subjects, but also to the people
and government of Ekiti State, Governor Kayode Fayemi said.
He said tradition and the popular wish of residents will play roles in
filling the stool vacated by the Oba?s demise.
?The sweet memory of this monarch would linger in the minds of his
subjects and the entire people of Ekiti State for his peaceful reign
and great development he influenced to Ikere-Ekiti with his
connections,? the governor said during a condolence visit to the
palace of the late monarch in Ikere-Ekiti..
Represented by his deputy, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, the governor noted
that Oba Adegboye, who had lived a fulfilled life and reigned well and
therefore, should not be mourned but celebrated as a successful
monarch who joined his forebears after a successful and peaceful
tenure.
According to the governor, the late Ogoga would be remembered mostly
for the dignity and splendor he brought into the traditional
institution in Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria in general.
He described the late monarch as a bastion of Ekiti culture and
tradition and an embodiment of sound judgment, who displayed the fear
of God
His words: ?I will certainly miss his wealth of wisdom which I am
privileged to have benefited from immensely over the years.?
The governor the late monarch?s immediate family members and people of
Ikere-Ekiti that the government will fully participate in the burial
of the Oba even as he assured that the tradition will be followed to
the letter to pick a new monarch for the town.
He also said the wish of the people will be respected in the process
of filling the vacant stool.
Responding on behalf of the family, the first son of the late monarch,
Prince Adesoji Adegboye, expressed appreciation to the governor for
identifying with them and the people of Ikere-Ekiti.
Also speaking, the Osolo Uro and Secretary of the Ogoga-in-Council,
Chief Obafemi Jongbo thanked the governor and the government of Ekiti
State for the visit which according to him, clearly demonstrated the
rapport between the government and the late monarch while he lived.
He promised that the Ogoga-in-Council will not put the government in
the dark about the activities lined up for the final burial of the Oba.
