Couple of months after the 2008 general elections and the old man at the castle has been sworn in as president of the country, het got missing in action.

His missing in action made people to wonder as to what was happening to the old man who was not appearing in public neither to address an occasion or kick start his government’s activities.

This made certain politicians to poke fun at the old man using the situation which was in a form of a question which went like this,” ah na ayefro wen?” to wit where is the bridegroom.

Then the other person will reply in the same local twi language with seriousness looking around which also went like this,” Oh ayefro waaka dem” meaning Oh the bridegroom has gone into hibernation or to better explain the bridegroom has gone into self impose house arrest.

This went on for a period of time before the old man started to appear in media as he went round the regions to thank people for electing him as president of the land.

Currently the same people are poking fun by asking where the president is as he travels around the world almost every month.

The same group of people are asking the same question which goes like this,” Ah na ayefro wen?” to wit where is the bridegroom. And the other persons responds “Oh eyefro seesei de oko honeymoon nee conference” meaning “Oh the bridegroom is currently on honeymoon conferences and tours”.

Currently, many Ghanaians are expressing their concern about the rate at which the president gets onboard an airplane least he wants to fly off to another country following a press lease from his office to the people that he was attending this or that or blah, blah, blah.

Last November, news went round that he was visitingAmericaand that he would be visitingCanadato be preciseOttawatoo. This created a lot of hullabaloo as many asked the essence of his visit.

This was because during the reigns of ex-president Kufuor, Professor Mills criticized his predecessor for leaving Ghanaians to their fate in solving numerous problems facing them whiles he wears his big and long suits going on globe trotting.

At one of his “I care for you” campaign tours, he visited the Akosombo Dam site as the heat of the energy crisis was getting out of order and commented that ex-president Kufuor, instead of staying in the country and help solve the problems he was rather traveling around the world.

Read the lips of the professor as he granted interview to the chronicle,” My government would be the first government to go down to the people to tell them the truth that we are in crisis but are finding solution to it”.

He continued,” We are coming back to power not to wear big suits like president Kufuor and go on globe trotting where there are so many problems to solve to demonstrate to all that we care for them and not a government that neglects them”.

Yes ex-president Kufuor during his later part of government in power did have problem with many Ghanaians as he used to travel all over attending international conferences and more.

Professor Mills seeking president at the time join president Kufuor’s critiques to sing the chorus “too many travels Mr. President” stay home and help solve our problems.

As he assured the electorate at that time that he would not wear big suits and go on globe trotting, they trusted him and voted for him and his NDC party to power for him to demonstrate his acclaimed quality leadership.

But what are we seeing now of the later day saint. Attending conference almost every month leaving the tax payer to sweat and solve the problems of the country whiles he relaxes else where?

Can he tell the tax payers whose problems he is expected to work and ensure that they are solved that in his reign there are no problems for him to burn the mid night candle to solve as it was in Mr. Kufuor’s reign?

At the moment I understand some persons in certain media networks just laughs whenever they receive a press release indicating the president’s next visit outside the country by saying, ”ah here you go again, another medical check up in disguise”.

Mr. President, the country is facing a lot of crisis ranging from persistent hydro-electric outages, shortage of fuel, high prices for food stuff and other commodities, high utility bills and rents, school fees becoming burdensome and what have you that needs immediate solution.

More emphasis should be placed on solving the internal crisis than attending conference here and there.

You assured all that you care for all and that you will come to power not to wear big suits like ex-president Kufuor to conferences but rather help solve the problems in the country.

No it is not happening as you assured all Ghanaians. Rather you are traveling more than what ex-president Kufuor and many Ghanaians are now complaining.

Please do not preach peace and practice otherwise. Ghanaians are watching you with careful eyes.

NEXT WEEK THE RECORDER WILL PLAY BACK ON THE CORRUPTION STATEMENT MADE BY THE PRESIDENT AGAINST THE NPP GOVERNMENT AND FIND OUT WHETHER UNDER HIS REIGN IT HAS BEEN UPROOTED AS HE ASSURED ALL BEFORE COMING INTO POWER.

UNTIL THE RECORDER STOPS PLAYING BACK STAY TUNE.
