Five orphanages were recently hosted at Gloriaka Hotel, Winneba, for the 3rd edition of the Orphans Shopping Spree. It was organised by Orphans Cake Foundation.

A total of 227 inmates?Good Shepherd, Kasoa (75); St Anna?s, Winneba (34); Mum?s Care, Senya Breku (42); Tina?s Care, Swedru (32); and Helping Hand, Swedru (38)?were beneficiaries of the Orphans Shopping Spree.

Inmates of the homes and their caretakers trooped to the prototype shopping centre which was set up at the conference room of the prestigious Gloriaka Hotel where they shopped for free.  Their OCF customized debit cards were worth various amounts, depending on the ages of the shoppers.

Items displayed in the shops included stationery, school bags, clothing, cosmetics, jewelleries, footwear and toiletries, among others.

The activities for the event included cake cutting, shopping, breakout sections and buffet. An after-party with a dance competition climaxed the event. Winners went home with several gifts and cash rewards.

The project was partnered by Kiddie Place, First Capital Plus, Mazera Resturant, Dark and Lovely, Godly Favoured Opticals, Fanice, Fynk Creative and icapture multimedia.

Orphans Cake Foundation, founded in June 2012, is an orphan centred non-governmental foundation whose priority is to transform the lives of orphans through advocacy and ?edutainment? projects.
