The aspiring governor who is a former Head of Service

The governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Osun State, Mr. Olusegun Akinwusi, has called on the electorate to totally reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the August 9 poll.

The aspiring governor who is a former  Head of Service (HoS) in the state, stated that the two major political parties had completely demonised the nation?s democracy going by the current spate of violence and uncontrolled monetisation of politics in the state.

Akinwusi while addressing members of SDP in Ibokun at the weekend after the party?s campaign tour of some communities in Obokun and Oriade Local Governments, decried the killing of one Tola Adeosun in Ilesa last Friday during a bloody fracas between APC and PDP supporters.

He also accused the two parties for ?rearing thugs? ahead of the August election, saying both APC and PDP are Siamese twins that cannot be separated when it comes to anti-democratic behaviors.

?Recently, security agents arrested several thugs in Ilesa, the other day it was terror in Ile-Ife when members of the two parties engaged themselves in a deadly brawl leading to destruction of properties worth several millions of Naira.
?Some of them in APC and PDP are going around now like born again people, but we know that they are wolfs in sheep?s clothing. Characteristically, we know what they are and who they are. How many of them can withstand test of integrity??, he stated.

On monetisation of politics, Akinwusi was of the opinion that anyone who used N1 billion to campaign will find it comfortable to steal N100 billion from government coffers.

According to him, such a trend where voters are being heavily bribed to vote against their will must be stopped while calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to carry out its oversight functions as expected by law on campaign spending.

?We know candidates who have spent several billions of Naira on this election. I don?t need to mention names. We see only their posters and billboards everywhere; we see their customised rice, beans, kerosene, cloths and many more.
?Many have advised me to go and break the banks saying I am the best candidate but lack fund to actualise this project. Yes, I have been using my gratuities and pensions to campaign and few friends who I appreciate have given their widow?s mite.

?Yet, with all honesty, we have taken SDP, a party relatively unknown in this state to this stage. We are strongly contending with parties of billionaires that have been in existence from 1999. August 9 will determine if people want real change or a continuation of old orders in APC or PDP?, said Akinwusi.

He admonished SDP members in the state to work towards the party?s victory on August 9, just as he called on security agents to be on the lookout for troublemakers as the results of the poll may not favour either APC or PDP.
