Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has alleged that the withdrawal of his police security was meant to harm him.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by his spokesman, Imam Imam, he said the police action also amounted to contempt of court.
Tambuwal announced his defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.
However, his police security aides were withdrawn on Thursday morning by the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, who said the speaker?s defection had activated section 68 (g) of the 1999 constitution which says a member of parliament who defects will lose his seat.
Imam, however, said two court cases had already determined that the PDP is factionalised and the police were wrong to be interpreting the constitution.
