Three suspected kidnappers?have been arrested by the police in Lagos.

The suspects, Pius Uba Livinus 25; Kelechukwu Onyema, 27; and Ayebe Segun, 32, were arrested by officers attached to the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on September 3, 2012.

The suspects had allegedly kidnapped one Yahaya Aminu, a member of staff at Dangote Group.

Aminu was allegedly trailed by the kidnappers from his Office Headquarters at Falomo, Ikoyi as he went to a nearby GT Bank to withdraw some money.

Ngozi Braide, State Police spokesperson said the suspected ?kidnappers were arrested by the police at Ajao Estate following a distress call.

“The victim was rescued alive while two locally made pistols with sixteen rounds of cartridges and one KIA Cerato Saloon car, with registration number DN 735 APP, belonging to the victim were recovered from the kidnappers,” she said.

Braide however, expressed?worry over the recent release of one of the kidnappers, Livinus, by the court.

She said the suspect had earlier been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over a similar offence, but was “strangely released” in June 2012.

Braide stated that Livinus and other members of his gang, were initially arrested?on February 17, 2012 at Oniru Estate in Lagos for kidnapping one Debasis Mitraroy of Dangote Group.

“The suspect (Livinus)was eventually charged to court 17,PWD Ikeja presided over by magistrate A.O Akande for conspiracy and kidnapping via charge number MIK/R/42/2012, but was strangely released in June 2012 by the court from where he immediately went back to his kidnapping business,” she said.

The police also alleged that Livinus and his gang kidnapped an Indian at a Victoria Island nightclub in March 2011.

She said that the gang collected a ransom of $200,000 (N32million) for his release and?fled to Ghana before returning to Nigeria this year to coordinate more kidnapping.

One of Livinus’ suspected gang members, William Bassey, had earlier been arrested and paraded by the police in connection another kidnapping offence.

Livinus confessed to the crime, saying that he was influenced by bad friends, who led him to crime.

“Anytime I want to quit, my friends will threaten me that if I don’t go out with them they will kill my family members, so that is why I keep going back to kidnappin,” Livinus said.
