Starr Fm attracts heavy-weight broadcast journalists

Barely does a day pass within the last month without news of yet another heavy-weight broadcast journalist or media celebrity joining the newly established Starr 103.5 Fm located in the first floor of the Meridien House, Ring Road Central in Accra.

NEWS-ONE visited the office, an ultra modern one that emits the aroma of wealth, and confirmed that Kafui Dey of ?Who Wants To Be Rich? fame would be hosting the Starr Morning Show from September. It was also confirmed that media captains including Cox Tamakloe (General Manager), Bola Ray (Chief Executive), Nii Ayi Tagoe, Kweku Obeng Adjei, Paa Kwesi Asare and Elvis Adjetey, all from Joy FM, have joined the Starr FM team.

BBC?s Sammy Darko and Ruby Sackey, both formerly of Joy FM, have also joined the Starr team.

Other celebrity names, including actress Naa Ashokor Mensah Doku, musician Jon Germain, and stand-up comedian Funny Face, are also with the Starr team.

The station, currently on test transmission, would officially start operating in September; and the format is to do 60% music and 40% talk, targeting an urban audience, mostly the upwardly mobile audience with a disposable income.

Below is an abridged profile of some of the notable faces behind the station:

KAFUI  DEY

Host of the famous ?Who wants to be rich? show, Kafui Dey is widely known for his powerful and bubbly voice.  His career in radio broadcast began with putting out requests for his mates in the university as one of the first presenters on the University of Ghana campus radio station. With over 10 years of radio and television experience, Kafui has also presented various shows, produced station jingles and worked as a sales and marketing officer.

He was a pioneer of the all talk format at Choice FM and was one of the brains behind the very first English radio stations in Kumasi. Kafui also has a vast experience in the corporate world, but resigned after 17 years to enter full-time Corporate MCing. He has MC?d over 300 events. Kafui is the author of ?How to MC any Event?, which is the first of its kind to be written by an African across the continent.

The renowned MC is married to a Physician with three lovely boys. He hosts a show called Energy Hour on GTV and has joined the Starr team as the presenter of the Morning Starr show. He is yet to shine with his unique voice and sense of perfection in communicating.

NAA ASHORKOR

Naa Ashokor

Hot and sexy actress and presenter, Naa Ashorkor Mensah ?Doku, is the latest kid on the block to catch a ride with the rising Starr 103.5 FM.

She?s been in the broadcast media for six years now, and has caught the attention of many.

Naa has starred in movies produced by ace producer, Shirley Frimpong-Manso, ?such as the popular Adams Apple, Checkmate, Perfect Picture and Scorned.

Naa also runs her own show on TV with live studio guests, ?Tales from the powder room?, which deals with everyday women issues ranging from home, office, to relationships.

The brainy bird topped the cake with icing after she took a giant step to dazzle the whole of Africa when she hosted the 2014 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in Nigeria.

BOLA RAY

Nat Kwabena Anokye Adisi, popularly known as Bola Ray, is best known as one of Ghana?s pioneering radio and television personalities and is developing into one of the nation?s foremost authorities in progressive motivation with regard to event production and business expansion. He is an icon for perseverance, discipline and success with humility. As a visionary with a keen eye for talent, he inspires those who follow in his entrepreneurial, philanthropic and artistic steps.

He is the first African and Ghanaian to host ?Top of the Pops? on BBC Radio. He won the ?Radio Programme of the Year? at the Radio and Television Presenters Award (RTP Awards). He was adjudged the Showbiz Personality of the Year at the 14th City People Awards for Excellence held in Lagos, Nigeria. He also won the Professional Radio Presenter of the Year 2010 by Vector Recognition Awards.

JON GERMAIN

Described as one of Ghana?s hottest and well-dressed presenters, Jon Germain, host of the nominated CIMG TV show of the year, ?Allo Tigo?, boasts of over 20 years of excellent broadcasting skills.

Jon has had the privilege to interview renowned personalities such as Lucky Dube, Hugh Masakela, Rev. Jesse Jackson, the entire Soul Food cast, Wyclef, Akon and Joe, to mention but a few. He was awarded ?Entertainment Presenter of the Decade? by a radio station in London, and has also been described as the most influential TV presenter in Ghana by the Graphic Showbiz.

DJ BLOW

DJ Blow

With over 20 years of impeccable radio experience, DJ Blow, known in private life as William Nanka Bruce III, has over the years entertained listeners on radio across the country with his tactical selection of classical music mixes and excellent delivery.

?The Grandmaster?, as he is affectionately known by his listeners, has also played a host of corporate events and launches with a list of happy clients such as Tigo Ghana, MTN, GCBL, KLM, British American Tobacco, Publicis, GTP and Total.

As Co-Director of Tag Team LTD and DJ of the world famous Tulip Mirror Ball, he has captivated discerning patrons of the mature persuasion, both on the dance floor and on radio, in a manner that has never been witnessed in this country.

DJ Blow is yet to blow the minds of his listeners on Starr FM with his excellent taste for Old skuul music, as he brings a whole new twist and turn to Starr FM?s adult contemporary music segment.

NII AYI TAGOE

Nii Ayi Tagoe

Nii Ayi Tagoe is known to be one of the most daring presenters in the country. He has 10 years of radio experience and has won the hearts of many listeners with his all round selection of tunes ranging from R&B, Hip Hop, Highlife, Hiplife and Old School music.

He has also hosted a number of talk shows on radio and DJ?d at numerous events. Nii Ayi was the first DJ to ever play for the popular 020 Live show organised by one of the largest telecommunications giants in the country. He also DJ?d at the MTN hit-maker, ?Back in the Day? concert, and the VGMA?s of which he happens to be a board member.

The daring all-round DJ adds to the number of top presenters to join the Starr family, as they set the pace for lifestyle radio across the nation.

DJ FRENCHKISS

DJ French Kiss

FrenchKiss, who is one of the best club DJs in the United Kingdom, with a huge following at club and on-air levels, has played a critical role in putting Afro-Beats on the map and is happy to return to be part of a bigger project with the ?Starrs?.

Nana Kodjo Adjei?his actual name?was born in London, and has lived almost all his life in England. The only years he spent in Ghana were his days at Prempeh College as a senior high school student.

FrenchKiss studied Audio Arts and Mathematics in College. He started his DJ career in London in 1996 by playing mainly in house parties. He said he had to start from somewhere in order to promote himself.

FrenchKiss was well known for his giveaways at the clubs, and is one of the first DJs to introduce mixed CDs. FrenchKiss is optimistic he will build a connection with the Ghanaian listener and thrive on the airwaves without a hustle.

DJVYRUSKY

DJVRUSKY

Coming from a business background, DJ Vyrusky has a deeper understanding of the arts that he has spent years from his student days, trying to learn what it takes to crisscross genres without losing the attention of audiences.

It has taken DJVyrusky years of experience playing for friends, to become the official DJ for MzVee and the official DJ for Radio and TV Personality (RTP) Awards 2012. He has established himself as a force to reckon with when it comes to talk of town events. He has performed on platforms like Ghana meet Naija, Tidal Rave, Ghana DJs Awards, Red Room at VGMA and the Switch Concerts from Accra to Kwahu to Kumasi.

Kofi Amoako, as he is known outside showbiz, recently completed a Master?s programme from the University of Ghana Business School in Insurance. He has on his list of satisfied corporate clients, Tigo, Vodafone, UT Bank, and MTN among many others.

At the Discovery of the Year at 2013 DJ Awards, he earned the title, ?Master of the Turntables? as he is able to cross genres in a heartbeat. He is however yet to take listeners of Starr 103.5FM on his vertical trajectory as he starts the weekend.
