He said the cynical political discussions that had taken prominence in the national discourse, which could breed rancor and acrimony, must give way to serious public education on the impact of the wanton destruction of the environment.
He said it should be appreciated that ?if there is no environment there can be no government, there can be no politics?.
Mr Osei was speaking to journalists in Kumasi on the sidelines of a day?s media training on International Water Resources Management (IWRM) and Water Laws and Regulations.
The programme was put together by the Water Resources Commission (WRC).
He said more was needed to be done to save the environment and water resources being destroyed with careless abandon through illegal mining activities and other negative practices.
He warned that the current situation where water sources were being polluted by fecal matter and cyanide poisoning, if not halted, could lead to complete water scarcity because ?water is a finite and not an infinite commodity?.
Mrs Adwoa Dako, the Public Relations officer of WRC, called on the media to develop interest in water issues and give accurate and in-depth reportage to help save water bodies, the neglect of which would have disastrous impact on society.
She appealed to the relevant bodies to take responsibility for protecting water resources.
