Atlas Copco Ghana, a world leading provider of industrial productivity solutions has once again provided support to St. Nicholas Preparatory School based in Tema Manhean. In addition to providing funds towards the school?s expansion programme, the company has donated dry food items covering a period of 6 months.

St. Nicholas Preparatory School currently offers pre-school education to underprivileged children living in the surrounding sprawling Tema Manhean fishing community. The children are taught English, reading, writing and other classroom skills. They are provided with school uniforms, school books and writing material and are given breakfast, a fruit snack and a healthy lunch, and also receive treatment for their medical needs. The children are required to only pay a nominal registration fee, while all other costs are borne by the school.

The current stage of school?s development program costing US$500,000 commenced in December 2013. This consists of a two-storey building comprising nine classrooms class rooms for the current pupils to move up into primary, junior, junior secondary and secondary education. There are also long term plans for a vocational college to be constructed on the neighbouring site to teach skills such as IT, construction and tourism completing the children?s education

Ms. Rhoda Aboagye, HR Officer of Atlas Copco made the donation of the food items on behalf of the management of her company. In an official message announcing the donation, Mrs. Janet D. Adanusa, the Human Resources and Administrative Manager of Atlas Copco described the support as the company?s Easter gift to the school.

Pupils of the school in appreciation presented a bouquet of flowers and certificate to Mrs Aboagye to be presented to the Management of Atlas Copco.? The excited children who helped unload the food stuff thanked the Atlas Copco in English, Ewe and Twi.

The Head Master of St. Nicholas, Mr Emmanuel Donkor and his Assistant Mr Innocent Mensah thanked the management of Atlas Copco and noted that the items and funding would go a long way to help the school.

?This will be of enormous help and support to the school which provides two meals a day to the children who attend and who otherwise would not be able to afford to go to school?, they said.

?We invite the management of Atlas Copco to visit the school and see at firsthand what work is being done and how this donation will assist us. Our vision for the future is that through further capital investment, the school will expand to cover primary and junior high school education, culminating in the development of a vocational college?.

The school project was initiated in February 2012 through the Maria Tsakos Foundation in Ghana with the motto: ?Every child has a right to education.?

Beginning with 28 children from four to six years in one class, it now has 60 pupils in four classes, with seven permanent teaching staff.
