Mayardit on Sunday sent a congratulatory cable to his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir on his re-elelction in the recent presidential polls, the report said.
“On behalf of the people of South Sudan, I express our warm congratulations over your sweeping victory in the recent elections,” the cable read.
“I take this opportunity to express delight over the standing ties which we have built and developed with the spirit of joint commitment to completing the outstanding issues between our brotherly countries,” said Mayardit.
He further expressed hope that the cooperation between the countries would continue under al-Bashir’s leadership.
The border issue constitutes one of the biggest barriers hampering the settlement of differences between Sudan and South Sudan, which involves disputes over five border areas, including the oil-rich Abyei, Dabatal-Fakhar, Jabel Al-Migainis, Samaha and Kafia Kanji. Enditem
