Slovakia welcomes the appointment of its diplomat as UN special rep for Iraq

The Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry has welcomed the decision of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to appoint Slovak diplomat Jan Kubis as Special Representative for Iraq and head of the UNAMI mission in Iraq, announced the ministry’s press section on Wednesday.United Nations
“Jan Kubis’s appointment is perceived as confirmation of his qualities. In this context we’d like to express our support for him in carrying out the posting in Iraq, and we’re convinced that he’ll contribute to a resolution of the situation in that country,” wrote the press section.
Ban Ki-moon appointed Kubis to the post on Tuesday. He’ll replace Nickolay Mladenov from Bulgaria. The former Slovak foreign minister served as special representative and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) as of 2012. Enditem
