A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Mr Hopeson Adorye, says he will appear before the Supreme Court on August 14, 2013.

He, however, said he was yet to receive his summons from the court.

The General Secretary of the NPP, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, however, told Joy News on Friday that he was unaware of the summons.

He declined any further comments until he had seen the official summons.

The Supreme Court, on August 9, 2013, in a summons jointly signed by the Presiding Judge of the nine-member panel hearing the presidential election petition and the Registrar of the court, Mr Justice William Atuguba and Mr James Mensah respectively, formally summoned Mr Adorye and Mr Owusu-Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, to answer contempt charges.

The court is asking the two to show why they ?should not to be committed to prison for contempt of this court for scandalising the court, lowering the authority and credibility of this court in the eyes of the general public and exciting hatred and ill-will towards the first and second respondents herein?.

In an interview in Accra yesterday, Mr Adorye said his comments, many aspects of which had been distorted, were in direct response to a civil war threat issued by Mr Gabby Assumeng, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team.

Mr Adorye, who is a member of the Young Patriots, a youth group within the NPP, also told the Daily Graphic that his comments were made way before the Supreme Court gave the final warning against contemptuous comments.

According to him, what he said were comments on a press statement the Young Patriots had issued condemning Mr Assumeng?s threat that if the Supreme Court declared Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the winner of the 2012 presidential election on the face of the pink sheets, there would be civil war in Ghana.

On claims that he had also described Mr Samuel Awuku?s castigation of the Supreme Court judges as appropriate, he denied making any comment and accused the Daily Post, the newspaper that published his comments, as being ?mischievous?.
