Scientists can be very good politicians

Yahuza Mohammed Gomda is one of the highly trained professionals gunning for a top position in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC).

NDCHe wants to be the party?s National Vice Chairman, a position which he told DAILY GUIDE he would use to the benefit of the party which he has served for many years at various levels.

?I have served the cause of the party in both my hometown constituency in Yendi and Dome in Accra where I am currently domiciled,? he said.

?Scientists can be very good politicians because what informs their actions are based on research and experiments.

?I have learnt a lot over the years and I can?t wait to put these to the use of our political development as a nation. Not doing this would be a disservice to both my party and the nation. It is not as if one is not doing that already but at a certain stage in one?s political service there is the need to aspire to be at the summit and this is exactly what I want to do with all humility,? he said.

Yahuza Mohammed Gomda comes from a respected family of Islamic clerics in Yendi. He is also a descendant of Naa Andani maternally.

Having schooled in both the Northern and the Ashanti regions, including professional training in various countries such as Romania and Germany, the gentleman is full of confidence.

He holds a PhD from one of the most respected universities in Germany, having trained earlier in Romania as a veterinary surgeon.

Currently, on secondment to the Ministry of Science and Technology from the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, Yahuza Gomda, who loves researching, told DAILY GUIDE that ?the position I am vying for is one full of challenges and this is my specialisation if you like. My background has primed with the wherewithal to manage problems. Managing a political party at that level is no different from the many tasks I have handled in public service.?

His political pedigree in the NDC could be gleaned from his position between 1999 and 2000 as Vice Chairman of the Dome-Kwabenya ward of the Ga North constituency in the Greater Accra Region, among others.

Dr Gomda is not new to political contests, having vied for the candidacy of the Yendi constituency in the 2008 political season.

He has also supported disaster victims as evidenced from his undertaking of such task in Gushegu in the aftermath of a political violence.

This is his second time of vying for this position having done that earlier in the party?s Tamale congress in 2010.
