U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognises technology leader for its ongoing leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency

Ghana, Accra, March 07, 2013 ?? Samsung Electronics received the 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year ? Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for continued leadership in protecting the environment through various activities all focused on providing products with superior energy efficiency. Some of the reasons Samsung was selected from nearly 20,000 organisations in the U.S. participating in the ENERGY STAR program for this honour are:

-?????? Offering 1,435 ENERGY STAR-qualified models across multiple product categories, four of which received the Eco-Design and Sustainability Award from the Consumer Electronics Association earlier this year. In 2012, Samsung had more ENERGY STAR-qualified televisions and clothes washers than any other consumer electronics brands.

-?????? Highlighting the importance of energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction with various consumer programs that actively promoted the ?Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR? campaign such as an electronic billboard in Times Square, an Eco-zone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and at Boys & Girls Club of America events throughout the year.

-?????? Working with employees, retailers, and distributors to create training programs that stress the importance of energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

?We are thrilled to be selected for the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year ? Sustained Excellence Award,? said Yangkyu (Y.K.) Kim, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics North America. ?This prestigious honour recognises our corporate commitment to sustainability and encourages us to continue seeking smarter ways to manage our operations sustainably while developing the most innovative and energy efficient products.?

With ENERGY STAR?s help in the past 20 years, American families and businesses have saved more than $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.8 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, which is equivalent to more than 350 million vehicles.

The 2013 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a select group of organisations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing innovative energy efficiency approaches. These awards recognise ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors.

A proud ENERGY STAR partner since 1996, this year marks the fourth consecutive year Samsung has been honoured for providing its customers with energy-efficient products that have reduced consumption and helped consumers save on their energy costs. In addition to being named 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year ? Sustained Excellence, we have been recognised in the past as follows:
2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year ? Product Manufacturer Award

2011 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year ? Product Manufacturer Award

2010 ENERGY STAR Award for Excellence in Energy Star Promotion

2009 ENERGY STAR Award for Excellence in Energy Star Labelling.

?This award is indicative of Samsung?s commitment to energy efficient products and locally we are certainly supporting the drive towards energy efficiency ? where we have signed the 49M pledge and are continuously finding ways in which to preserve resources and create alternate energies through our product offering, for the consumer market,? says Michelle Potgieter, Head of Corporate marketing and communications at Samsung South Africa.

Samsung will formally accept the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year ? Sustained Excellence Award at the upcoming award ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 26, 2013. For more information about Samsung?s sustainability efforts, please visit www.samsung.com/us/environment
