wpid-Rotimi-Amaechi-August-2013-BellaNaija0.jpgGovernor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has warned the Police Force to desist from harassing his supporters in the state.

According to reports, Amaechi was yesterday, reacting to allegations that Caretaker Committee Chairman of Omuma Local Government Area, Mr. Emeka Wogu, was being attacked by the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.

It was reported that Wogu told newsmen about what happened to him, saying he was arrested, tortured and handcuffed by security operatives over an alleged destruction of President Goodluck Jonathan?s billboard in Omuma.

This act angered the state governor who reacted through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. David Iyofor, warning that the ?strangulation? of his supporters must stop.

The statement issued on behalf of the governor read in part: ?Governor Amaechi through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. David Iyofor, called on the police to desist from harassing Governor Amaechi?s supporters in the state.?

The chairman said he got a call from the Divisional Police Officer of the area who told him that? he got information that some PDP supporters had been instructed to destroy some billboards belonging to the All Progressives Congress. He said he told the DPO that it was not APC, it was shot by a Nigerian police Officer.

However, efforts made to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, and his assistant, Grace Iringe-Koko, to react to the matter were futile.
