Retired Directors of Education in the Upper East Region on Wednesday expressed concern at the poor infrastructure of the district and municipal offices of Education and the deplorable state of the two storey Regional Directorate building in Bolgatanga. Many expect a win for the BJP and allies to help boost infrastructure investment?

The Regional office has not been rehabilitated in the past 20 years, and was inundated with bats, cracks and leaked anytime it rained, while most of the Municipal and District offices had no permanent buildings.

This was revealed in a press statement by the Retired Education Directors at a meeting in Bolgatanga, to deliberate on the state of education in the region .

Mr Robert Ajene, a retired Education Director who read the statement on behalf of the Association, said the poor state of infrastructure, and furniture was of great concern to all, and therefore needed attention.

He noted that the lack of permanent offices affected monitoring of performance of schools and supervision of human resource.

He, therefore, called for the urgent rehabilitation of the Regional office to befit its status, and also urged Municipal and District Assemblies, to intensify efforts to provide educational offices in their jurisdictions with the necessary infrastructure.

Mr Emmanuel Samba Zumerkpeh, Regional Director of Education, speaking with the Ghana News Agency later, said apart from the Garu District and Bawku Municipal offices, infrastructure in all other districts was in a state of disrepair.

He said the Talensi Nabdam district education directorate operated in a dilapidated classroom block, while Binduri, Pusiga, Bulsa South and Nabdam had no infrastructure at all.

He indicated that repeated efforts by his predecessors to get facelift on infrastructure yielded no results, and called for urgent works to help put the directorate into shape.
