The contest, honoring reports about palliative care in Africa, is open to journalists working for local, regional or international media organizations.

The award is offered by the African Palliative Care Association (APCA), with funding from the Open Society Foundations.

Reports can be a news or feature article published in a newspaper, magazine or news website; a television or radio report, or a third party blog.

Entrants can submit one report in either English, French or Portuguese, published or broadcast between July 1, 2012, and July 31, 2013.

The winning journalist will be awarded USD$1,500, and the media outlet carrying the winning report USD$500. Runner-ups will receive USD$750, USD$500 and USD$250. Winners will receive their awards during the APCA-HPCA palliative care conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, in September.

The deadline is July 31.
