The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), a non-governmental organsation has called on the public to report corrupt institutions to the body for it to facilitate investigations.

Ghana Integrity InitiativeThe local chapter of the Transparency International, the global civil society organization leading the fight against corruption said on Wednesday, it had developed a toll free line (080010025) and the general public could call and report alleged corrupt practices within public institutions.

Ms Seyram Agbemenya, Senior Programme and Research Officer of the GII, made the call at a sensitization seminar on the adoption and implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP), at Bechem.

It was organized by the GII with support from Star Ghana and attended by leaders, elders and members of Christian, Muslim and related faith-based institutions, organization and traditional rulers.

The two-day seminar was aimed at empowering the about 50 participants to lead the advocacy role for the implementation of the NACAP as well as the review of the Conduct of the Public Officers Bill.

Ms Agbemenya explained that GII through its Advocacy and Legal Advice Center (ALAC) had engaged a legal practitioner at its head office in Accra, who is dedicated to the toll free line, receiving cases of corruption and providing legal services to the general public free of charge.

She noted with concern that bribery, extortions, nepotism and other forms of corruption was rife and it required collective and shared approach from the general public to bring institutional ones under control.

Ms Agbemenya stressed that if citizens especially those at the local level and the media understood their respective roles in the implementation of the NACAP, it would enable them to integrate their plan into their activities.

The Reverend Father Sixtus Kyei Kusi of the St Joseph Catholic Church at Bechem said corruption was attitudinal and until Ghanaians change their mindset it could not be controlled.

He commended the GII and its partners in their effort in fighting corruption and advised the public to play their part.
