Nkrumah is in fashion again and everyone now wants to be associated with him. But it was not so while he ruled.
Many assassination attempts and threats were hurled at him but he simply succeeded.

Many times, his opponents tried to kill him via bomb explosions. When he was not being bombed, he was being shot at. He was bombed in the vicinity of his office, at home and while addressing political rallies.
These were some of the many evil plans against a man who just wanted the best for his country and in line with that worked tirelessly for the common good of all.
But Nkrumah did not give up. He simply succeeded. Although he was not able to realise his dream of fully developing his country industrially and economically, his footprints in the pursue of these dreams are positive and have remained a landmark till this day.

For the very fact that I (this writer), have grown to know about Nkrumah and his achievements indicates that he was simply a leader of a difference, one who was committed to seeing his country and Africa reach their full potentials as far as economic development is concerned and one who was ready to lay down his life for his country.

It is rather unfortunate that in Ghana and Africa for that matter, people are really interested in believing everything or anyone foreign and so the people of Gold Coast failed to understand and believe Nkrumah’s abilities. So they connived with the idea and plan of International Intelligence Agencies to overthrow him. By this, it shows that Africa’s mind has been colonized also to the extent that they saw nothing wrong in overthrowing and assassinating a man who fought for independence and brought them freedom from their European oppressors.
Nkrumah’s visions for Ghana and Africa were simply applaudable and great. Judging from the point of view of uniting Africa into a Federal State, one could say that Nkrumah was simply a man endowed with divine strength and wisdom, under whose leadership Ghana and for that matter Africa would have been a better place to live. I believe Nkrumah was a man sent by God to redeem his people and unite them for a common good.

But it takes divine insight to be able to understand someone you consider alien. Nkrumah was not alien. His own people rather failed to understand him. They considered him as Lucifer in Kente and jumper. But he was God-sent. I would rather not talk about his achievements because my report will be an understatement. But his legacies are still alive to bear full witness of him.
As we celebrate his birthday, may we reflect on his legacies and begin to thread on the path of commitment and dedication to our country and may our leaders dare to make positive footprints of selflessness and move Ghana unto a high place of advancement from which all shall benefit.

Long live Nkrumah’s legacies!

Long live Ghana!
