The Chief Inspector of Mines, Mr. Stephen Piedu has over the weekend toured the Ashanti Regional quarries from 18 to 22nd February this year as part of his efforts to stop linkages of explosions from the mining companies to illegal galamsey operators.

During his visit to the following quarries to the mining companies to find the lasting solutions to the mining companies in the Ashanti Region, the Mining companies includes A. kannin, Northern Mines, Kas Products, Cymene Quarry, ESM Quarry, Naachia Quarry and Consor Quarry.

The Chief Inspector pointed out to the mining companies that if explosions are issued from the various magazines to be use out the quarry face are not accompanied with strict and proper supervision of complete person who would conduct the charging of holes and substituent initiation that is a possibility of explosion linkages at that part to the illegal miners.

He therefore directed all management of the quarries as well as any mining production that uses explosives to put the necessary system in place to check possible linkages of explosives.

He further directed that any explosive trend with illegal mining during any explosion which can be teased to the source when found that source may have their licenses revoked.

?The security agencies have and continuing to execute their core mandate of ensuring safety for all Ghanaians, thus the need to acknowledge their contributions towards National Development?, he said. Mr. Piedu However believes that if laws in the country are heeded to, Ghana will be a better place to live and also called on illegal operators to desist but rather be law-abiding citizens to guarantee a better Ghana.
