President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a nine-member board for the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), charging it to prosecute the agenda to make Ghana a power hub in West Africa.

?I know that you are up to the task,? President Mahama said.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Flagstaff House on Thursday, December 18, 2014.

Engineer Emmanuel Annan will chair the board, which has as members representatives of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC), the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and domestic consumers.

?A lot rests on your shoulders whether we will be able to achieve our objective of becoming the power hub of West Africa, which is government?s vision.?

President Mahama said the PURC must not only make ?the playing field? accessible to all actors in the sector but also ensure that power is produced at ?the most efficient price possible?.

Mr Annan pledged the hardwork of the new board to address the challenges in the power sector.

?The directions that we point with our regulations will give a clear direction to the investors who are interested to come into this country or go somewhere else.?

He also assured of constant touch with consumers.

The members of the board are Daniel Owusu-Koranteng, TUC?s representative, Dr Yaw Adu-Agyei Gyamfi, AGI?s representative, Dr Ferdinand Tay, domestic consumers? representative and Samuel Kwadwo Sarpong, the Executive Secretary.

The rest are David Kwadzo Ametefe, Stephen Akuoko, Major (rtd) Albert Don-Chebe and Samuel Adetola, who are all goverment nominees on the board.
