Professional Footballers of Ghana congratulates Coach Appiah

Accra, April 11, GNA – The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has congratulated James Kwesi Appiah on his appointment as the head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.

A statement signed by Anthony Baffoe, General Secretary of the players’ welfare body copied to GNA Sports expressed confidence in the abilities of the new Stars trainer, who also doubles as President of the PFAG.

“We have waited long and suggested the appointment of an African, specifically a Ghanaian, to head the national team.

“The PFAG stands in full support for Kwesi Appiah and we look forward to continued great strides from the Black Stars under his direction,” the statement said.

Baffoe urged other members of the body and football lovers in general to rally behind Appiah for him to succeed as the Black Stars coach.

Other members of the PFAG Board are Stephen Appiah (1st Vice President), Michael Essien (2nd Vice President) with Abedi Pele Ayew, Anthony Yeboah, Samuel Osei Kuffuor, Kwame Ayew, Augustine Arhinful and Marcel Desailly as members.

The Ghana Football Association, (GFA) it will be recalled appointed Appiah as substantive coach of the Black Stars last Monday after a head-hunting mission.

The 51-year old former Black Stars captain replaces his former boss, Goran Stevanovic who was fired after the Black Stars fourth placing at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

He has been an assistant coach of the Black Stars under two foreign coaches for the past four years.
