Prof. Bondzi-Simpson To Address Mfantsipim Dwen Hwe Kan Lectures

Prof. Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson, a Professor of Law and Founding Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Cape Coast, will deliver the inaugural address of the Mfantsipim Annual DWEN HWE KAN Lectures under the theme: ?DWEN HWE KAN, Mfantsipim Creed For Leadership In Africa?.

The Annual DWEN HWE KAN Lectures have been instituted by the School to provide a platform for renowned Old Boys of the School to ruminate through topical national and global issues that relate to leadership, patriotism, governance, development, volunteerism, nationalism, community and public service, loyalty and allegiance within the context of Mfantsipim values, creed and philosophy as defined by the founding fathers.

The first part of this year?s maiden lectures will take place at the Mfantsipim School Quadrangle, Cape Coast on Friday, 24th April, 2015, on the topic ?Nation-Building and National Interest: The Values Factor?.

According to Mr. J. K. A. Simpson, the Headmaster of Mfantsipim School, the second part of the Lectures comes off at the British Council Hall, Accra on Wednesday, 27th May, 2015, on the topic ?Nation-Building and National Interest: A Regime For Determining Public-Sector Compensation?.

He intimated that the annual lectures are integral part of the Mfantsipim Flag Month celebrations which this year will start from Wednesday, 22nd April 2015 to Monday, 1st June, 2015, during which all current students and Old Boys of the School are expected to fly the flag, which embodies the School?s virtues, heritage, traditions and values to serve as a constant reminder for themselves, the nation and humanity. Old Boys and students of Mfantsipim and other stakeholders including the Methodist Church Ghana, PTA and families of the Founding Fathers are invited to attend the lecture in both Accra and Cape Coast.

Prof. Bondzi-Simpson is a member of the Board of Directors, Judicial Training Institute, Judicial Service of the Republic of Ghana; Chairman, Continuing Legal Education and Professional Development Committee, Ghana Bar Association; and former lecturer Ghana School of Law/Board of Legal Education of the General Legal Council Republic of Ghana. Apart from various visiting and adjunct lectureship positions in Ghana and abroad, he is a former Dean of Business at the University of Cape Coast.

As the third son of an Old Boy (Class of 1946), he attended Mfantsipim between 1973 and 1978 where he obtained his GCE O? Level certificate. He was part of the pioneer Health Sciences Class, and he got the first prize for that subject in November 1977. He proceeded to St. John?s School, Sekondi for his sixth form and from there to the University of Ghana. At the University of Ghana, he served as the President of the Old Boys Association. Between 2008 and 2014, he was the President of the Central Regional Branch of MOBA. He was privileged to have been nominated by his classmates to be the Guest Speaker for the 2008 Speech and Prize-Giving Day Ceremony.

Prof. Bondzi-Simpson obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from the University of Ghana, Legon in 1984, where he had been since 1980. He continued to the Ghana School of Law between 1984 and 1986. Prof. Bondzi-Simpson further pursued a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1986-87. Between 1987 and 1990, he studied at the University of Toronto where he obtained the Doctor of Juridical Sciences degree (SJD). In 2011, he obtained a post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the University of Cape Coast.

Prof. Bondzi-Simpson is a former Director of Legal Services and Investigations at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in the Republic of Ghana. He has also served and serves on numerous committees and boards of corporate, statutory, government and international bodies and agencies.
